LOT DETAILS

Materials:

oil on canvas

Size Notes:

canvas: 36 by 47 ? in.; 93 by 119.6 cm.

Description:

or LOG IN

Condition:

The canvas is lined and stable on its stretcher. The painting presents a strong image overall and appears to be in good condition overall.. There is a faint pattern of stable craquelure throughout, though this is not distracting, and the surface is somewhat dirty. There is a small network of scratches in the lower right corner, and one near the lower edge. There are a few very small pin dots of loss near the center of the left edge, and old lifting in and around the face of the woman at upper left has been stabilized and retouched. Inspection under UV light does not reveal much by way of recent restoration, apart from a few scattered spots here and there, most of which are visible to the naked eye, for example in the pants of the young man's pants at far right and the shoulder of the man at far left. There appears to have possibly been an older campaign of restoration, as visible in the shadowed half of the face of this figure at the far right, as well as in the shadows of the face of the violin player. This painting can certainly hang in its present condition. Offered in a simple modern wood frame. The lot is sold in the condition it is in at the time of sale.
